I’m here at the MIRA testing facility where we have two climate controlled chambers separated by this huge petition and in it as you can see we fitted two windows. Now this one here is the Everest A rated double glazed casement window. and this one over is a non-Everest standard double glazed window. and what we’re going to do is heat this chamber so that it’s lovely and cozy and warm and then this room outside or the other chamber in effect we’re going to chill right down to minus five degrees just like it would be on a freezing cold winter’s night. ok well let’s have a look at these windows now. well here is the standard double glazed window and as you can see it’s pretty well
covered in condensation which means that the outside freezing temperature has
chilled this inside pane so the thermal insulation is not really, very effective on this one. Let’s look at the Everest as you can see that’s pretty clear. There is a little bit of condensation around the outside, but not very much at all. so the insulation on this one is certainly very effective. So let’s have a look at the other side. Gosh, it really is absolutely freezing in this chamber, I can’t tell you. Now I’ve interesting piece of kit here. It’s a thermal imaging camera and it shows where the heat source is coming from. So if I show you how it works and put my hand in front. Look you can see the yellow bit is showing where my hand is quite warm and the blue around the outside is where it’s really cold. so I’m going to use this now on the two windows to see which window is letting out the most heat. So if I put them up there Gosh! That is amazing! Look, you can see that the one on the right hand side is showing bright yellow. That’s the standard double glazed window and just imagine the amount of heat that’s being lost out of that window. If that was your house you are literally letting money float out the window. Then of course the Everest one is hardly losing any heat at all. It’s virtually totally purple so that is really effective. Now just think what a difference that’s going to make to your energy bills.
